Science fairs engage students in the practices of science and engineering, requiring them to apply those skills to a topic of interest to them. Doing science is key to understanding science.

Our school is holding a Science Fair beginning on February 27th, and all students in grades 6 to 11 will be participating. Hands-on scientific investigation and invention are the focus of our fair. Over a 3-week period, your child will design, test, analyze, and present a project that uses scientific methods to solve a problem. The sky’s the limit!  Your student must fill out and return the idea approval form by Feb. 2, 2012.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BULK OF THE WORK WILL BE DONE AT HOME. Students will be given project guidelines and timelines at school, and teachers will check in with them periodically. However, much of the work will be SELF-DIRECTED. It is important that your child meets the deadlines set forth to positively impact their science grade.  Parents are encouraged to offer emotional support and reminders, but to allow children to do the projects by themselves.

Covenant Keepers’ annual Literacy and Numeracy Night was held on January 23.   Parents and families were invited to come to school with their students and participate in fun math and literacy activities.

Some of the activities included Picture/Vocabulary Bingo, Story Keepers, Online Literacy Scavenger Hunt, the Factor Game, Product Connect Four, and Four in a Row Math.  Many attendees  won prizes for winning various games!

Families were treated to pizza and other goodies provided by Covenant Keepers and Life Strategies Counseling Services.

Several lucky students walked away with prizes including novels and gift cards.

After adjourning from Literacy & Numeracy Night, parents were invited to join Ms. Murphy for a Parent Involvement meeting in the cafeteria.  Issues addressed were an overview of our Parent Center and Family Binder, volunteer opportunities, types of parental involvement, and several other timely topics.
